from April – September 2023 WL-CIC along with Origin fertilisers carried out soil & tissue sampling on 6 farms.
Facilitators took soil samples and then visited the farms every month to take the grass samples. A small cage was place over a patch or grass to prevent grazing. Results have been give back to the farmers, these results will further build up data for the area and help farmers understand the nutrient value of their soil & grass better.
On the 19th February 2024 we held a results meeting at Seascale golf club. around 30 farmers attended while Matt Everett and the team from origin gave a presentation explaining the results from the soil & Grass samples. Thank you to Matt and the team for a very informative evening, not only giving us a better understanding when reading soil test results but also making us think more about the relationship between our soils and what nutrients are passed on to our grasses and our livestock.
We hope to carry on working with Origin on this project throughout the year.
